NKOTB on The Today Show!

It's official! People.com is reporting that all 5 original members of the New Kids on the Block will be reuniting for a performance out on the plaza on The Today Show April 4th!!
I would be a big fat liar if I said I wasn't considering the 3 block hike over there to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of Hangin Tough!
For further proof, check out recent updates to nkotb.com! Yeah, I fer sher got chills watching that teaser video on their website!!
UPDATE 4-03-08: Ok, so I think what's happening is this: Today Meredith Viera announced that a group who is reuniting will be on the show tomorrow to make an announcement and that the group will be performing later this summer as part of the Today Show Summer Concert Series. If you look at the Today Show website, it shows that the performer for tomorrow, April 4th is actually Raheem DeVaughn, and on the schedule for May 16 is "Surprise Reunion concert". Therefore, I think the NKOTB boys will be around tomorrow, probably out on the plaza, to announce an upcoming tour and ultimately, their May 16th performance on the Today Show, wherby they'll play all our old favorites.
That's my hypothesis anyway. Take the morning of May 16th off work, just in case! ;)

Paris Hilton Can't Dance

Paris Hilton, taking a break from touring with her brand new Madden brother boyfriend, was a judge for the Miss Turkey beauty pageant yesterday (as in the country). At one point, a contestant led Hilton on stage to perform a belly dancing routine which, not surprisingly, the heiress failed miserably at.

*pose pose, toss hair around, look embarassed, clap clap pose* Nope!

Now, if there were a Miss Turkey pageant (as in the food) I would be a shoo in! I have a turkey sandwich for lunch every day, and consume the most poultry of any family member at our annual Thanksgiving dinnr, while managing to appear poised and delicate! Gimme that bird crown!

Pearl Jam Adds More Shows to Tour!

Pearl Jam has added (well sorta) two additional shows to their June 2008 tour on the East Coast. The shows will take place on June 20 in Camden, NJ (Philly), and on June 28 in Mansfield, MA (Boston).

The catch is that, although pre-sale tickets go on sale on April 1, the shows have not yet been "confirmed". Basically, they're going to run your card to make sure the ticket amount goes through, but not actually charge you until the venues give final confirmation.

You can read a detailed description of how it's all gonna shake down HERE.

As for me, I'm going to be breathing into a paper bag, imagining what I've gotten myself into now that I've added Boston to my tour stop.......

Spitzer's Call Girl on 30 Rock??

Page Six is reporting that Tina Fey wants to offer Ashley Dupre, the girl that snogged former NY governer, Eliot Spitzer, a role on her hit NBC show 30 Rock!

Ok, first she sells a million downloads of her sub-par music and now a spot on a top rated, nationally syndicated tv series!? Are you kidding me? THIS is what is wrong with the entertainment industry, my friends! When all your dreams come true simply because you've boffed a high profile, MARRIED, politician, it is a sad sad scenario.

I love Tina Fey because she got where she is by being brilliant, and witty. This Dupre character, unfortunately, did not follow the same path, so why are we rewarding her with opportunities that legitimate artists who keep their pants on, deserve? Hmmmm??

30 Rock returns with all new episodes on April 10th. Another possibility for an upcoming guest appearance, according to ETonline, is Britney Spears whose role on How I Met Your Mother earned the show its highest ratings ever this week. I would love to see Brit continue her successful climb out of the gutter by going on 30 Rock!

Lets Make Out!

When I heard an electro punk group of raucous Brit boys had a song called "Lets Make Out", I just had to check give it a listen! The band, named Does It Offend You, Yeah? (after a Ricky Gervais line from the British Office), are featured in the current issue of Rolling Stone, and are described as "an obnoxious, dizzying, perfectly of-the-moment blend of Daft Punk, Justice and a little Rage Against the Machine".

I love their energy, their silly lyrics, and of course their British accents! Listen to them on myspace or their official website. Their album, You Have No Idea What You're Getting Yourself Into, dropped in the UK this week, and is also available on itunes.

NY locals can see Does It Offend You at Highline on May 16, and at Southpaw on May 17.

I got my tickets!!

Yesterday wasn't so bad, but today getting pre-sale fan club tickets to Pearl Jam at Madison Square Garden was sheer misery. I, and thousands of other die-hard fans, logged onto the website TWICE today: at 12pm and 2pm Eastern time, with the hopes of snagging a coveted pair of priority seats to see PJ at MSG in June. I love TenClub. I really really do. But I do have to complain a bit about the website. Frankly, it SUCKS. Sucks bigtime in fact. Within seconds of ticket time, the site crashed completely. I got in long enough to put the tickets into my cart, but it took me 36 and 45 minutes respectively to actually confirm and pay for each show!

By 3pm, my pits were sweatty, my my fingernails were lying in slivers on the floor, my hair was matted to my head, and my cheeks burned like two bright red apples under my skin.

Low and behold, in addition to Bonnarroo this year, I will be attending Pearl Jam concerts in Camden, NJ, New York, NY, and Washington DC. YIPPEEEE!!

See you lucky S.O.B's at the show!

The Cure on Tour

I am obviously very vocal about my affinity for Pearl Jam, and the emotions that Pearl Jam music evokes from me. What I am not always so vocal about is my love for the music of The Cure. Like Pearl Jam, the music of The Cure arouses deeply emotional, and very nostalgic memories for me. At one point in college, the only CD that would play in my stereo was Wish, and for that reason, the album got heavy rotation in my apartment.

Now, of course, I can listen to any song I like on my ipod, just by pushing a button. But you know something, If I could go back to that wrinkle in time, when magically there was 1 only CD that the cosmos would allow me to listen to- the same 12 songs echoing through my tiny bedroom over and over all night long, representing a swollen heart and clouded mind, I would. If only for a night, or even an hour. I would not think twice.

I could probably write a book (or at least a very full, and expository chapter) about what goes through my head and heart when I hear The Cure, and since I've never seen them live, it would be a dream come true to see them at Radio City on June 21 when they are in town. They're also playing MSG June 20. I'm working on getting tickets to Radio City (both NY dates are sold out), despite the fact that The Cure shows fall smack dab in the middle of my Pearl Jam tour hop from Nashville, to Camden, then DC and back to NY in 2 insane weeks in June!

"A Letter to Elise", the third single off Wish, is one of those songs that gives me a lump in my throat within the first 10 notes. The angst and pure and honest longing that come from Robert Smith's vocals are enough to make you forget that that dude wears lipstick!

I know i'll never really get inside of you
to make your eyes catch fire
the way they should
the way the blue could pull me in
if they only would
if they only would

Pearl Jam at MSG in June 2008?

Pearl Jam fans should be aware that we got robbed of our much anticipated fan club annoucement yesterday afternoon, allegedly due to the fact that whatever they were about to tell us had yet to be buttoned down officially. We were assured that we'd get some juicy news (tour?) today, however.

Well, it appears, that not all parties involved in the mystery announcement received the gag order, and by midnight I was receiving phone calls and emails leaking "confirmation" of 2 upcoming Pearl Jam tour dates this June 24 & 25 at Madison Square Garden!

These sources were adament about the veracity and accuracy of said annoucement.

Why am I telling you this if we're going to find out officially in about 4 hours? Because I felt it was my duty, thats why :)

Stay tuned to pearljam.com later today for an official announcement, and here as always for your latest rumor reports!

UPDATE!! Tour Confirmed!

Adele performing "To Make You Feel My Love" at Joe's Pub

LA Times reports the Diddy was behind Tupac's murder

Yesterday, the LA Times published a shocking expose' revealing alleged insight into the 1994 murder of Tupac Shakur. Specifically, the LA Times implicates P. Diddy as playing a significant role:
"Now, newly discovered information, including interviews with people who were at the studio that night, lends credence to Shakur's insistence that associates of rap impresario Sean "Diddy" Combs were behind the assault. Their alleged motives: to punish Shakur for disrespecting them and rejecting their business overtures and, not incidentally, to curry favor with Combs."

IMO, Tupac was a bright light that was snuffed out far too early, and if these allegations are true, it is a sad day in Hip Hop, but at least we could finally let the man rest in peace.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

If I can't spend my day drinking green beer like I'd prefer, I will spend it eating green cupcakes!

Last night I baked, and in doing so, used an inordinate amount of green food coloring! These cupcakes look gorgeous, right? I must admit that there were 6 fatalities. I clumsily dumped a tin upside down on the way INTO the oven, spewing green slime all over the inside of my oven, the floor, and inside the broiler drawer. Typical Talia move.

Anyway, I can't eat all these myself, so the first 12 lucky lads and lassies to get to my desk earn themselves a green tongue!

It's true! Britney Spears is filming a guest appearance for the hit CBS show, How I Met Your Mother, which is set to air on March 24.
People.com has the scoop on Brit's reaction to taking on a new, legitimate project:
"Working at How I Met Your Mother has been so terrific," Spears says. "Everyone, including the cast, the crew and the producers, has been wonderful and Abby is such a fun girl to play. I'm having a blast!"
And the LA Times is concurring that Brit's behavior so far has been stellar!
Well I, for one, am proud! (and I hope they have a good hairdresser on set!) Keep up the good work, Brit! :)

Jann Wenner/ Rolling Stone endorses Barack Obama

This is old news by now, but:
a.) I've already told you I have been busy the past couple of days, and
b.) I'm certain my mailman actually reads my Rolling Stone before he delivers each issue because although issues hit news stands every other Friday, I get mine on Tuesdays! Hmm...

Jann Wenner and Rolling Stone have officially endorsed Barack Obama in the current issue of RS Magazine. Looks like Obama has solidified his status as the candidate with the most "rock star" appeal, by gracing the lastest RS cover! Not like we didn't see this one coming, eh?

Woman Sits on Toilet for 2 years!

Sorry guy, I've been occupied for the past 48 hours. Something about old ladies laying on the floor, and mandatory CLE credits....ask me over drinks sometime...

Anyway, until I get all caught up, and posting again, chew on this: Its a story about one of my favorite topics of conversation, and a word that, when inserted into pretty much any sentence, will transform that sentence into something silly!

(This is the actual headline)
Woman Sits on Boyfriend's Toilet for 2 Years!
Read Story Here on MSNBC
“She was not glued. She was not tied. She was just physically stuck by her body,” Whipple said. “It is hard to imagine. ... I still have a hard time imagining it myself.”

He told investigators he brought his girlfriend food and water, and asked her every day to come out of the bathroom.

“And her reply would be, ‘Maybe tomorrow,”’ Whipple said. “According to him, she did not want to leave the bathroom.”

Apparently this woman chose to sit on the toilet in her boyfriend's trailer for 2 years! I don't know about you, but I've got loads of questions, namely...
1.) Where did her boyfriend go to the bathroom? Granted, he could pee outside or in the bathtub but, um....
2.) Why did he allow this to happen? Can you imagine the conversation between the two of them?
"Honey I'm gonna sit for a spell."
"Ok, dear."
(hours pass)
"Honey, I'm getting hungry, can you bring me my dinner? In fact, I'm thinking of sitting longer than I originally planned, can you just bring everything I'm going to need for the next 2 years in here, as I need it?"
"That sounds perfectly reasonable. I do not object."

For TWO YEARS?! When the guy finally decided to call for help in getting her off the crapper, her butt had grown attached to the toilet seat! Not just figuratively but quite literally! I know I should not laugh, and it is important to acknowledge that this woman had some serious issues, but come on! MSNBC has done a story about her butt! If you don't laugh, you have allowed yourself to get too old!

REM goes for non-traditional release

It seems like non-traditional album releases are the latest trend for veterans of the music industry. Billboard is reporting that, beginning on March 24, REM will launch their latest album, "Accelerate", on the social networking application iLike, making 11 songs accessible for free to users of Facebook.com, iLike.com, and Itunes.
"It was one of those ideas that was presented to us and it seemed like a good one so we ran for it," R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe tells Billboard.com. He also noted that the way people embrace music "has certainly changed in the last 5 or 10 years. I think you can either go with it or sit back and watch it happen, and I would rather be out on the field than in the bleachers."

Read more HERE
Trivia Question: Who inducted REM into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 362 days ago???
ANSWER: EDDIE VEDDER! :) (I know, cuz I was there)

Etch a Sketch Clock

One of my favorite toys growing up was the etch-a-sketch. I even bought one recently to give to a charity toy drive, but I accidentally opened it, played with it, and decided to keep it for myself. I was sketching with it on the subway one night (others have PSP, I have EaS) and an elderly Asian woman told me I was very good! That is because I am. In fact, during my latest move (145 paces to the left of my previous apartment) Beth was given the sole task of moving the etch-a-sketch, so as not to shake it or molest the beautiful image I had sketched.

So, when I saw this YouTube video of an Etch-a-Sketch clock, It got my attention. This is amazing! Man, I wish I was a science nerd sometimes.

From Today's New York Times:
Governor Spitzer stated in a press conference today:
“I have acted in a way that violates my obligation to my family and violates my or any sense of right or wrong,” said Mr. Spitzer, who appeared with his wife Silda at his Manhattan office. “I apologize first and most importantly to my family. I apologize to the public to whom I promised better.”

Things I just CANNOT handle!

Dude. Ok. I have to give myself some serious props for having developed into a pretty easy going person of late, compared to the uuber high-strung, overly emotional bitch monster that I was from approximately 2002-2005 (we'll call these "the law school years"). But, honestly, I don't have sh!t to complain about these days (especially since I successfully won a judgment against a former landlord that was trying to misappropriate money from my roomates and I). I have minimal worries, and therefore, minimal aggravation-induced rants. I'm a virtual peach. I swear. Nevertheless, there are a few things that still get me riled up. Things that, no matter how little life irritates me on a daily basis, will get my blood boiling in under 10 seconds. These things are my pet peeves, of sorts, and are what out me as a former princess of impatience:

1. SLURPING. Slurping of anything, at any time, is unacceptable. Serioiusly? Why? Isn't your intention in having purchaced the coffee in that cup, to have it end up in your stomach? Ok, then why do you spend so much time audibly forcing said beverage through the spaces between your teeth? I don't know about you, but I learned within my first 24 hours on this planet that opening my mouth was the best way to get stuff down my throat and into my stomach. It is not a difficult concept to comprehend. F*cking swallow it already, so that I can cease fantasizing about stabbing you in the temple with a mechanical pencil. See, look what you've turned me into!

2. Singing out loud in inappropriate public situations. Friday night I was at the gym (I know, I'm a nerd) and as I was trying to get through my situps, there was a woman on an eliptical machine approximately 3 feet behind me listening to her ipod, and every few seconds she'd loudly blurt out a word or two from the song- usually "Whoooa" or "Yeaaaahhhh". Not only did it startle me every time, because she was singing off-pitch (no matter what song she was listening to) and because it was so damn loud. Is she retarded? Does she not understand that we can all hear her? She must, right? So then it would follow that she assumes that we wouldn't mind said outbursts. Really? REALLY? What would that crowded gym sound like if everyone in there sang out loud to their ipods? It would be f*cking terrible! Shut the F up, dude! Ipods don't come standard with a microphone. This is because they are intended for you to listen to on your own, NOT sing out loud to everyone within ear shot. Have a little respect for pete's sake! Oh, and you're not fooling anyone with your full face of makeup and your hair down at the GYM! Please, if you were there for the right reason, you'd wash your face and pull that raggedy hair back. Riiiight, the trainers find you attractive, is that it? Tons of dates acquired at the gym? Uh huh.

Another example: This morning I got on the crowded R train, and stood directly accross from a woman, also listening to her ipod, who was dancing (fine, as long as you don't invade my personal space) and singing out loud to her music. No. Unacceptable. AND, when I looked up from my book to see who was the cause of the squawking she had the nerve to give ME a dirty look! Am I taking crazy pills? You're f*cking with me, right? If we wanted to hear you sing, we would pay a cover charge and come listen to you at a local venue (notice I am not jumping out of my seat to do so). Your mama might tell you that you have a lovely singing voice, but I will not. Because you don't. Shut up.

Ok, thats enough. I feel better now. I swear, I'm a lovely person :)

Hillary Clinton snubbed by the girl in her own ad!

Most people have seen Hillary Clinton's, now infamous, TV ad about the 3AM phone call. It's being parodied all over YouTube, and was even put through the SNL wringer this week. The latest attack on Hillary's ad, is from one of the sleeping children in the ad itself! The girl, Casey Knowels, was 8 years old when the footage was shot for a different commercial, and is now a 17-year-old Obama supporter, who actually works on the Obama campaign! Oops.

She was on The Today Show this morning, making it clear to everyone that she supports neither Clinton's controversial ad, nor her campaign. Poor Hil! What are the odds? Pretty funny though :)

SNL Project Runway Spoof

This week's SNL featured a HILARIOUS spoof of Project Runway's newest winner, Christian Siriano. Yeah, the guy personifies "fairy" and had a habit of saying the same catch phrases over and over all season, creating obvious fodder for spoofage, BUT, the fact that Amy Pohler looked and sounded EXACTLY like him was what amused me the most! Host, Amy Adams played a not-so-spot-on Heidi Klum. But, my girl Amy Pohler is comedic genius! Hopefully, I'll be able to move up the ranks quickly at UCB, and perhaps, my dreams of Amy P. and I becoming bff will come true! What? It could TOTALLY happen! ;)

"Don't you like Chuck Klosterman.....like alot?", my friend asked me a few weeks ago. "I do!", I replied. Afterall, I have made no mystery of my affinity for his writing. Mostly, he entertains and frustrates me in equal amounts. Entertains me because he writes the way I think, and frustrates me because I'm too lazy/ unmotivated to do the job myself.
My friend proceeded to drunkenly try to fix me up with the author at Hanger Bar a few nights later(eventhough CK was not actually there), by telling his Spin buddies (who were there) that I liked him liked him....like more than a friend! MORTIFYING!

Anywhoo, luckily everyone was drunk that night, and hopefully the memory of said half-assed match making evaporated with the alcohol in the blood stream, leaving Mr. Klosterman in the dark about my purported crush. PHEW! If not, tomorrow night could be awkward! I will be attending A Chuck Klosterman Conversation at Highline Ballroom tomorrow night, and will hopefully be not only amused but also inspired by the fella that wrote one of my favorite books: Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs! I also recently finished Killing Yourself to Live, which played out more like a schitzophrenic mash-up of personal love woes and dead rock stars than a journalistic piece, but was, nonetheless entertaining.

If I simply sat down and typed out all the brilliant ideas and stories that cluttered my brain on a constant basis, I, too, could be a famous author. Then again, the self-absorbed, human pop-up video writing position seems to be filled already. Nuts.

Talia's Song Pick-o-the week

Its been a while since I've had a song pick of the week, but I just can't get enough of British phenom singer Adele, so I'm gonna plug my girl today! I've had her first album, 19 (title based on her age on the 2008 release date), for a few weeks now and I love her more and more each day. Adele recently won the Critic's Choice award at the 2008 Brit Awards. Most of the songs on her album deal with sour relationships and unrequited love, so yeah, I'm a huge fan! She's got a boisterous and powerful throwback sound for such a young girl, and is often compared to fellow Brit, Amy Winehouse (Stay clean Adele! Crack kills!).
Adele will be playing two sold-out shows at Joe's Pub in NYC on March 17 & 18.

For these reasons, my song pick-o-the-week is:

Right As Rain
By: Adele
Who wants to be right as rain
It’s better when something is wrong
You get excitement in your bones
And everything you do’s a game
When night comes and your all on your own
You can say I chose to be alone
Who wants to be right as rain
It’s harder when your on top

Cause when hard work don’t pay off
And I’m tired there aint no room in my bed
As far as I’m concerned
So wipe that dirty smile off
We won’t be making up
I’ve cried my heart out
And now I’ve had enough of love

Who wants to be riding high
when you’ll just crumble back on down
You give up everything you are
And even then you don’t get far
They make believe that everything
Is exactly what it seems
But at least when your at your worst
You know how to feel things

See when hard work don’t pay off
And I’m tired there aint no room in my bed
As far as I’m concerned
So wipe that dirty smile off
We won’t be making up
I’ve cried my heart out
And now I’ve had enough of love

Go ahead and still my heart
To make me cry again
Cause it will never hurt
As much as it did then
We were both right
And no one had blame
But now I give up
On this endless game

Cause who wants to be right as rain
It’s better when something is wrong
I get excitement in my bones
Even though everything’s a strain
When night comes and I’m all on my own
You should know I chose to be alone
So who want to be right as rain
It’s harder when your on top

Cause when hard work don’t pay off
And I’m tired there aint no room in my bed
As far as I’m concernedSo wipe that dirty smile off
We won’t be making up
I’ve cried my heart out
And now I’ve had enough of love

This picture is so cute! This week is a big week for our potential candidates, and it looks like after Tuesday, one of the Democratic hopefulls, like Heidi Klum would say, "will be out". Good luck, Barack Obama! If this cutie pie below could vote, I'll bet she'd be on your side too!
