Amy is for realz preggo!

Amy Poehler apparently takes her job super seriously. People.com has confirmed that the 37 year old tiny genius is expecting her first child with husband Will Arnett! Aww, I feel like I actually know her. You know, from UCB and stuff. Anyway, congrats to the happy couple! I hope she'll continue to do ASSSCAT on Sundays for a few more months!

JERKS!

For all you fans (or merciless slaves) of The Hills, you know that Heidi and Lauren had a major falling out a while back because Heidi supposedly spread rumors that Lauren had a sex tape with her ex, Jason Wahler. Well, for all the denial Heidi's been perpetuating for the past year or so, she and her rat-bearded boyfriend certainly are not keeping mum anymore. If they didn't spread rumors initially I think their candor on Tyra yesterday is cause for widespread disgust! Its a good thing these two have each other, cuz who else would want such rotten "friends"?

Tina Fey and Amy Pohler Open TFF 2008!

Tomorrow marks the start of the 2008 Tribeca Film Festival, and who better to open the season than two of New Yorks finest funny women (and my personal idols) Tina Fey and Amy Pohler!?

Baby Mama, written and directed by Michael McCullers and produced by Lorne Michaels depicts Fey as a single woman who hires Pohler to act as a surrogate mother. Tina Fey, who made history as the first female head writer of Saturday Night Live has an unmistakable chemistry with fellow SNL alum Amy Pohler, and of course can be expected to deliver mad funnies!

Baby Mama premiers tomorrow, April 23 in NYC kicking off TFF 08. As always, there are loads of flicks to check out for a reasonable price at locations all over the city from April 23- May 4, and you might even see me hanging around the venues with my volunteer tshirt and badge :)

I'll try to keep ya abreast of the films I've seen and/ or recommend. Yay, I looooove summer!

Bonnaroo is THE BEST Summer Festival!

Guess I picked the right one to throw all my energy into this year!
From Rolling Stone:
"Coachella might have Cameron Diaz in the VIP tent, and Lollapalooza might draw more fans, but Bonnaroo — where 80,000 congregate each summer in the wilds of Manchester, Tennessee — is the ultimate over-the-top summer festival. (The seventh edition kicks off June 12th, with Metallica, Pearl Jam and Jack Johnson.) From the freewheeling camping area — where you can buy everything from moonshine to mescaline — to legendary sets by everyone from Wilco to Ornette Coleman, Bonnaroo is super-fan-friendly. And artists love it too. "We've played at noon — that was hot and crazy and scary — and we've played on Sunday, when everyone was fried from partying," says My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James. Last year, Phil Lesh camped out in his RV, and this year, the Kings of Leon will drive down from Nashville even though they're not on the bill. "We make it a point to go down there with a whole posse of friends," says James, whose band will play a late-night set following Metallica and Chris Rock. If that trio doesn't sell you on Bonnaroo, listen to Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips: "I like Coachella and Lollapalooza, but as far as the magnitude and the weirdness, Bonnaroo is the one."

Happy Birthday Mel!

Today is Mel Carter's 65th birthday! While this may seem insignificant to most of you, I'll assure you that to my mother and I, today is a day to celebrate because this American singer's biggest hit, Hold Me Thrill Me, Kiss Me (1965) just happens to be our favorite song!

Just so you know, I can teach Mel a lesson with my karaoke rendition of the song!
Enjoy :) Happy Birthday, Mel!

HAPPY EARTH DAY!

Today is EARTH DAY! That means you should do something to make your life a little more eco-friendly. Bring your own reusable bags to the grocery store. Pack your lunch in tupperware instead of tin foil, and bring a real coffee mug to work!

Funnies from the Past

When asked what my humor is like, I always bring up this sketch from SNL several years ago. For some reason, this will NEVER get old!

Spring in NYC

Spring has finally sprung in New York City! Especially for the occasion, I decided to brave the wretched Times Square tourist crowd for a sniff at the fresh air and a brief jaunt in the sun. I made my way to Bryant Park where seemingly zillions of others had the same idea as me, lunching, lounging, reading and riding the merry-go-round.

There is even a reading center where you can peep at an array of papers or be read to, aloud, by an exuberant orator.

Did I mention I love this city?

Adele at Highline!

Aaahhh! I've just finished licking my wounds from missing Adele's first U.S. show ever at Joe's pub last month, and now I have been given a second chance! On June 10th Adele will play Highline Ballroom and I will most definitely be there! If you are keeping track of my summer schedule you may be inclined to think that a show on June 10th is cutting very close to my departure to Nashville for Bonnaroo. Well, you would be correct. I fly out on the 11th, but I REFUSE to miss Adele again! She sings my song, in a way that I relate to more than her 19 years can ever truely understand.

Adele, I will see YOU on June 10th!

Sue likes surprise parties.

This past weekend's SNL was luke warm overall if you ask me, despite usual laugh-maker Christopher Walken hosting for what he estimated was the 100th time (counting re-runs). The show saver, for me (besides the semi-discreet fart joke at the "Walken Family Reunion") was my girl, Kristin Wiig being brilliant as always in the Surprise Party skit. Her overly-excited reactions (and neato turtleneck) get me every time. Check out her response when Walken asks whether they should get balloons. "YEEEESSS!"

Lollapalooza 2008 Lineup Announced

Well with Bonnaroo fast approaching for me and the rest of June, filled with Pearl Jam shows (NY, NJ, DC, MA) I have no business making any additional plans to see music this summer right? Wrong! I had hoped that the lineup for Lollapalooza 2008 would suck, thereby saving me money and travel but from the looks of the initial list, announced yesterday, I just might have to get it sorted! This year, Lolla will again take over Chicago's Grant Park from August 1-3. Yes, I'll see Kanye and Lupe at B'roo, and yes, I saw NIN in high school, but I did have a moment with the bass player for Margot and the Nuclear So and Sos a few years back, and the new Raconteurs album rocks, and I do looooove Cat Power, CSS, Girltalk, and Rogue Wave to name a few (plus I might just want Mark Ronson to put a baby in me)....just sayin. Lolla 08 might just have to happen for this New Yorker, but if you're closer to Chicago you have no excuse. Buy your tix now!

NKOTB Play Zootopia!

Wow, they just announced their reunion today and already they're announcing shows. I just got an email from the mailing list for Z100 Radio in New York, which listed NKOTB among the acts slated to play this year's Zootopia Concert at the Izod Center on May 17 (the day after their Today Show concert!)

New Kids On the Block Reunion on Today

Ok, it looks like my prediction for today's NKOTB appearance was pretty much dead on. I opted to stay in bed and let the crazy people stand in the rain this morning, but as it turns out, there was no performance. Instead, all five members of New Kids on the Block showed up in their finest duds to tell the throngs of screaming fans that they have, indeed, reunited and have been working on an album, which they will promote on tour starting this summer. To redeem myself for my laziness this morning, I will definitely be at Rockefeller Plaza on May 16 when NKOTB perform for the public for the first time since their reunion!

Here's video from The Today Show this morning:

My Buddy

Few can say they’ve been so lucky as to have a buddy like mine

My buddy would pick me up from school and take me to Apple Charlie's, documenting the whole adventure with his trusty cam-corder while I ate donuts and petted the goats.

When it was time to take off my training wheels, my buddy held onto the back of my seat, and ran with me as I pedaled away.

My buddy taught me how to fish and baited my hook so I didn’t have to touch the worm.

My buddy and I colored Easter eggs together every year and when we were done, he let me fill the sink with all the dye and turn my hands and the dish cloths a putrid shade of green.

My buddy taught me how to play poker with chips he kept in a purple Crown Royal bag.

My buddy made me the star of my own magic show, in which he used camera trickery to make it look as if I was vanishing household objects using my “magic pen”.

My buddy made me laugh till tears ran down my face, when he’d mute the commercials on TV, then make up his own running dialogue of what the actors were saying.

My buddy built me a beautiful wooden dollhouse, and painted it to look exactly like the picture on the box. From the leftover scraps, he created knick knacks, picture frames, and a model general store that he hung on the wall in the kitchen. He was always making something amazing out of nothing at all.

My buddy consistently cut my bangs too short, while I sat on the kitchen table. Then would laugh from his belly when I cried that they were crooked.

When my buddy saw how terrified I was when the doctor tried to remove the stitches in my foot, he waited till I fell asleep on the couch, then gently removed them himself, one by one, so that when I woke up, my stitches were gone, and I had nothing left to fear.
My buddy was an excellent cook, and made the best chili and Swedish meatballs I've ever tasted.

My buddy was the cleverest man I knew. He built a tool box out of a 6-pack of coke, and the handle of a snow shovel. When I was little, he bought me my own tool box so I could hammer nails into blocks and be busy like him. He taught me that everything could be fixed with either electrical tape or hot glue, and when I moved to NY he made me my own tool kit with everything I would need.

My buddy thought I was the best singer and dancer in the whole wide world, and captured all of my performances on film, keeping a meticulous catalog of VHS tapes with titles that all started with “Talia”.

My buddy was creative and artistic, smart, and mechanical, funny and loving, and he was the best buddy anyone could ever have. And now, he’s my guardian angel. I love you Grandpa. Please give Woody kisses for me.

Talia's Song Pick-o-the-week

I was listening to BBC Radio1 this morning, and heard this song: "Always Where I Need to Be", the first single off Konk, the new album from The Kooks which will be released in the US later this month. I love Luke's sometimes whiney, always emotive vocals, and the tune is catchy as hell. You can download the single now on Itunes, and can pre-order Konk here. Thus, my song pick-o-the week is:

Always Where I Need to Be
By: The Kooks

Say whatever you want
Oh, I could never judge you
Be whoever comes into your head
Oh, you know I’ll take you there
You know I’ll take you there

‘Cause I’m always where I need to be
And I always though I would end up
with you, eventually
Do dodo do do do do

Say whatever you want
Oh, I could never judge you
Say whatever comes into your head
Oh, oh you know I just don’t care
You know I just don’t care

‘Cause I’m always where I need to be
Yeah, and I always thought I would end up
with you, eventually
Do dodo do do do do

I want mine… I want mine on the sea
Oh let me be, let me be
I want mine on the sea
Let me be, let me be

‘Cause I’m always where I,
where I need to be
I-I-I always, always thought…
I would end up with you eventually!

Always where I need to be

I heart Crunch Gym!

Last night, upon entering my Park Slope Crunch Gym, I was excited to be greeted with a live DJ spinning house music mixed with club thumpers from Rhianna, Kanye, and Snoop! Dude. It was unbelievable! I snagged a treadmill 3 feet in front of the DJ booth, set my ipod on the ground, and ran my ass off! I didn't want to leave. It was the most fun I've ever had at the gym. The dude on the eliptical next to me clapped to the beat, while the girls in front of me on the stair climbers wiggled their butts to the same rhythm. It was like being at a club, but with all the lights on, with water instead of alcohol, and with everyone wearing the appropriate clothing to be sweating so damn much! AAhhhh, I love Crunch! Have you ever heard of such a thing??

I don't know what's happened to me in the past couple of years but all of a sudden my favorite place to be on any given week night is....(brace yourself)....the GYM! I am hands-down, unabashedly, obsessed with going to my GYM, which, as of last night has given me even further reason to love every minute I spend there!

Sure, I am more comfortable when I have a routine and maintain a busy schedule. I'll credit that trait as being at least part of why I love going to the gym every night, and I'll even throw in the obvious reasons such as 1.) I just feel better, 2.) I look better, 3.) I enjoy being healthy. I also like the sense of community that comes from knowing that all the patrons (who are friendly and respectable) are my neighbors. Cheesy? Probably. Maybe its just that I live in such an amazing neighborhood?

Anyway, I don't think I'll ever leave Brooklyn! :)

See you at Crunch tonight!

REM Plays Rockefeller Plaza

I am beyond angry right now! For a week now, The Today Show hosts have been promoting the performance of REM, live "in the studio" today. "In the studio?", I thought. "I'm not going to go down there to watch through the glass window with everyone else, but if they were playing OUTSIDE, well OF COURSE I'd go! I do, afterall, only work a couple of blocks from Rockefeller Plaza."

So this morning, as Iwas making my oatmeal, I put on The Today Show, as I always do, so I could at least hear the performance. To my shock and wild dismay, REM was performing OUTSIDE on the Plaza. I could have left for work early and seen a live performance from one of my favorite bands- a band that is said to have created "indie rock" in the 90s, and still been at my desk on time.

Watch video of REM promoting their latest Studio Album, Accelerate, live ON THE PLAZA, this morning. It is sooo ON, Matt Lauer...or should I say Matt LIAR?!:
