FUNNY TIME!

The time has come, once again, for me to hit the stage at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in New York City. With the help of my improv 301 group, I will be performing a completely improvised Harold (or making a valiant attempt) on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at 1:15 pm.

If you would like to laugh at me (either because I am genuinely funny, or because I am bombing on one of the most famed improv stages in the city) please come down and see the show! Either way, the laughter is encouraging for me.

Great Article about UCB in the NY Times

One of the best things I've ever done in New York was stumble into the smelly UCB theater on 26th and 8th a few years ago to see a comedy show. Upon first glance, I couldn't have known that this was one of the most precious gems in the city. When you walk into UCB, you check your status and aires at the door, and enter a place where celebrities and college kids alike sit in uncomfortable chairs, drink PBR from a can, and laugh their asses off till they unintentionally leak liquids from their bodies. Aaahhh, UCB! Now, as a student of improv at UCB, I proudly call this place a second home, and as such, I invite everyone out there to come see a show. It's cheap, its funny, and you never know who you'll run into. If you don't laugh, you're an uptight loser, and you should really take life less seriously.

The New York Times recently published a flattering article about UCB, which paints an accurate picture of the magic the little theater creates. One of the most notorious citizens, Amy Pohler, tells it like it is:

“The theater is what New York is,” said Ms. Poehler, the Upright Citizens Brigade co-founder. “It’s hectic, it’s a little dirty, it’s filled with a lot of different types of shows and people, it needs a little bit of repair. It’s also a little dangerous, and exciting.”

'Nuff said.

ASSSSCAT at NY Comedy Festival!

My favorite fully improvised live show, ASSSSCAT, is going to be performed at Irving Plaza as part of the NY Comedy Festival on November 11th! For this special performance, I believe the original hot shots of the Upright Citizens Brigade, will be among the players, including Horatio Sanz (UCB/SNL), Amy Pohler (UCB/SNL), and Matt Besser (UCB). I've got my tickets, but you have to go to ticketmaster to get them for this show, unlike regular UCB shows. Be aware, Irving Plaza (Filmore East) is standing room only, so if you plan on coming wear comfy shoes and no skirts in case we all decide to sit on the floor!

ASSSSCAT 3000 with stacked deck!

One requirement of my current improv class at Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre, is to see at LEAST one improvised show per week. It is actually more of a privilege though, because I get to see them for free now that I'm a student there, and I would see them anyway even if it wasn't required, so it works all around. This week, I chose to see ASSSSCAT 3000 on Sunday night at 9:30pm. ASSSSCAT is a fully improvised show, featuring celebrity improvisers such as Horatio Sanz, Amy Pohler, and many others from Saturday Night Live and Late Night with Conan OBrien. It plays 2 times every Sunday night at the UCB Theatre on 26th street at 8th Avenue, and I HIGHLY recommend it!

Last night we had a fully stacked cast including Seth Meyers (co-head writer and cast member on SNL), Jason Sudeikis (SNL), Amy Pohler (SNL), and Horatio Sanz (formerly of SNL). As always, I laughed my ASSSS off, but I was also treated to an exciting surprise in that Seth Meyers is actually super hot in person! Those blue eyes are piercing, his arms are chiseled, and oddly enough, the butt chin totally works for him!

Anyway, even if you don't have a crush on a cast member, I still recommend seeing ASSSCAT or any other show at UCB because it is a great way to get a few guttural belly laughs in. You should also come see my class performance there on June 24th. I can't guarantee you'll laugh at my brilliance, but you will definitely laugh at my awesome classmates.
