Stone Gossard: Busy Dude.

Geez, Stone Gossard has been quite the busy bee lately. Tonght he'll play a show at Warsaw in Brooklyn with Vince Mira and the Hank Khoir to kick-off Timberland's DIG IT with a series of eco-themed concerts. He's also releasing new solo songs. available HERE. Sadly, I will not be seeing my friend Stone tonight, as I will be at The Apollo Theater listening to the sweet sounds of Jenny Lewis tonight!

In honor of Stone, I'm posting this new video of him covering Prince's "1999". Welcome back to NYC, Stoney Pony!

Rock Around Barack!

I love to see Stone Gossard step into the spotlight. He and most of Pearl Jam (minus Ed) recorded a cover of Rock Around the Clock, cleverly (perhaps) replacing "the clock" with "Barack". It's not musical genius, but its my boys, and I think its adorable. Besides, any effort in support of Barack Obama gets aces in my book!

Repost from PearlJam.com
02.04.08

"Stone Gossard and members of PJ spearheaded the recording of a new rendition of an old-school tune "Rock Around The Clock", cleverly changing the lyrical content to "Rock Around Barack".

Here's what Stone has to say about the recording:

was the first mainstream rock and roll hit in 1955 and it had a transforming effect on American music. At that time, rock and rhythm and blues music was traditionally only played on black radio. I am, by no means, an expert on the history of rock & roll, but this was a big deal. The rhythm of rock music and its energy were so overwhelming that traditional barriers of race and culture broke down with an enormous crash. So here's to new energy, rock and the breaking down of cultural barriers: "Hello everyone. This is a track I've been thinking about for a while. Rock Around The ClockBarack Around The Clock!"

Drums - Matt Cameron
Bass - Jeff Ament
Rock and Roll Piano - Boom Gaspar
Lead Guitar - Mike McCready
Vocals and Rhythm Guitar - Stone Gossard
Background Vocals - Barrett Jones

Recorded By Floyd Reitsma at Avast Classic
Mixed by Barrett Jones at his place.
Paid for by Stone"

Green River Reunion

Wow, this must be the time for all my Pearl jam boys to really sew their non-pearl jam oats! With Eddie's first solo album in stores, and Stone tearing it up Brad-style recently in NYC and Seattle, the only logical next step is a Green River reunion, and Rolling Stone has confirmed that it will happen in 2008:

"Green River, the proto-grunge group featuring Peal Jam's Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament, and Mudhoney's Mark Arm and Steve Turner, will reunite next summer for a concert celebrating the twentieth anniversary of Sub Pop."
One can assume that the show will be in Seattle, which is home to Sub Pop, the first truly successful and most famous indie label (which is now owned partially by Warner). Green River was originally formed in 1984 and named after a notorious serial killer. I love reunions!

Will Eddie come out to support Stone in NYC?

With two upcoming shows in NYC next week for Stone Gossard's side band, Brad, it's only natural that we'd start wondering whether Eddie would come out to support his buddy.

Well, today, I was listening to Alt Nation on Sirius when the DJ hinted not so subtly that Eddie might just be making an appearance at the October 17th benefit concert at Webster Hall. Yeah, I yelped a little. We shall see...

EDIT- I goofed the other day and accidentally said the benefit was at IP but obv from the poster, its at Webster. Sor, Char.
