Was Eddie Vedder actually disqualified from the Oscars?

This is BS if I ever heard it! Contactmusic.com is reporting that Eddie Vedder was disqualified from an Oscar nomination for his soundtrack to Into the Wild because the music was too "song-based"! Are you kidding me? What does that even mean???

"RADIOHEAD rocker JONNY GREENWOOD and EDDIE VEDDER both missed out on a Best Score Oscar nomination for THERE WILL BE BLOOD and INTO THE WILD, because both soundtracks were ruled ineligible. Many Oscar watchers were left stunned when the rock star's movie score efforts were seemingly ignored by voters, but Oscar rules left both stars compositions out of the running. Greenwood's music for There Will Be Blood missed out because officials at the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences decided that a large part of it was not written specifically for the film, which picked up eight Oscar nominations on Tuesday (22Jan08). A proportion of the soundtrack was taken from Greenwood's Popcorn Superhet Receiver composition, which was commissioned by the BBC, and won him a British Composer Award in 2007. And Pearl Jam singer Vedder's soundtrack for Sean Penn's Into The Wild was also deemed ineligible for an Academy Award nomination - because the score is too "song-based".

Oscar Nominations Announced: Vedder Snubbed.

Didn't The Academy get the memo? The winner of the Golden Globe should at least get nominated for an Oscar! That's how it usually works, no? Well, at any rate, Into the Wild, got majorly snubbed for the 80th annual Academy Awards.

Eddie didn't get nominated for the film score or for Guaranteed as best song. Emile Hirsch wasn't nominated for best actor, and Sean Penn didn't get as much as a wink.

Hal Holbrook did pick up the nomination for best supporting actor for his role as Ron Franz in Into the Wild, while Jay Cassidy did also get a nod for film editing for Into the Wild. (who?)

Why not nominate ITW for best craft services in the filming of a motion picture? Huh?

I see that Enchanted got not one but THREE nominations for best song!? Um, seriously? Not one for my boy, Eddie, but THREE for that fruity family feel good foo foo movie?! Apparently The Academy has forgotten how to appreciate good, sophisticated art. (I did not actually see Enchanted)

I am happy about all the Juno nominations including Best Actress for Ellen Page (Perhaps we are related), Best Directing, Best Picture, and Best Original Screenplay. The soundtrack for Juno has also caused quite a buzz, and features several songs from The Moldy Peaches' Kimya Dawson. On The View yesterday, Kimya said that she and Adam Green (the other moldy Peach) got selected for the soundtrack because Ellen Page thought her character, Juno, would listen to them! Eddie Vedder wins a Golden Globe

Tonight, the names of each Golden Globe Award winner was read boringly and without the regular Hollywood glitz and glamor that we're used to for such an event.

On the bright side, the only Award I cared about, The award for Best Original Song in a Motion Picture, went to the best man/singer/songwriter/musician that I can think of: Mr. Eddie Vedder!

Yep, my FAV won the Golden Globe for his song, "Guaranteed", from Into the Wild.

I just love when I'm right! He is the best! Told ya!

Another one of my favorites, Johnny Depp also won for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical Or Comedy, for his performance in Sweeny Todd. I have not yet seen this movie, but I don't have much of an attention span for musicals, so I'm thinking this will be one I'll wait to see on dvd or on demand.

Here it is: Eddie Vedder's Video for Guaranteed

There is no question that "Guaranteed" is a beautiful song, and a thoughful compliment to the Into the Wild storyline. This music video, in my opinion, draws on the same inner dialogue presence as Eddie's soundtrack vocals did throughout the movie, by portraying images of Eddie's shaddowy presence behind images of Emile Hirsch as Chris McCandless.

Nice job, Eddie! Thanks for the birthday present :)

Eddie Vedder's solo video for Guaranteed premiers on January 7th!

Yay, the moment we have all been waiting for has arrived: Eddie Vedder's first solo video for the song "Guaranteed", will premier on January 7th on VH1 and VH1.com. Umm, thats MY BIRTHDAY, by the way!! Thank you, thank you!! What a wonderful birthday present! :)

Singer/songwriter Eddie Vedder appears for the first time as a solo artist in a music video for the Critics Choice-, Golden Globe- and Grammy-nominated song "Guaranteed" from the Sean Penn-directed motion picture Into the Wild.

The video, directed by critically-acclaimed writer/director Marc Rocco (Murder in the First and Where the Day Takes You) premieres January 7th at 6:00 a.m. EST on VH1 and VH1.com. Video repeats will air throughout the morning hours and online leading up to VH1's live telecast of the 13th Annual Critics Choice Awards at 9:00 p.m. EST.

Feature film writer/director Marc Rocco conceived, directed and produced the video for "Guaranteed" in just a few days - and shot the project entirely on 35 mm film in three hours - as a way for the typically video-shy Vedder to pay tribute to Sean Penn's film and Chris McCandless's journey. The video uses a series of floating, illuminated images from Into the Wild to capture Vedder's intimate and poetic performance, weaving striking silhouettes of Vedder with translit still frames from the film in a powerful and simple way.

"To me, Eddie is the most compelling musical artist of our generation," explains Rocco. "His songwriting pounds you on a visceral level and his storytelling always stands apart in the same way a great film does - each time you hear his words, they engender a different experience in your heart, soul and mind."

"It has been a privilege and honor to collaborate with Eddie in a medium that he so rarely visits. I hope that I've portrayed visually the song 'Guaranteed' in a way that leaves the viewer as emotionally moved as I was the first time I heard Eddie's music for Into the Wild."

Into the Wild Nominated for Golden Globe

Not only has "Guaranteed", been nominated for a Grammy, but the Into The Wild soundtrack has also been nominated for 2 Golden Globes! Looks like everyone thought the music/ film collaboration between geniuses Sean Penn and Eddie Vedder was amazing!
