Paul Simon at BAM
This April, the legendary Paul Simon will be setting up shop in my neighborhood in Brooklyn for a month long residency at BAM!
"In an unprecedented month-long residency at BAM, Paul Simon collaborates with an extraordinary range of artists to offer three musical constellations from the career of one of America's greatest songwriters.Latin beats and 50s doo-wop fill New York City's nights with Songs from The Capeman. In Under African Skies, Simon rekindles a love affair with the sounds of South Africa and Brazil which began with his masterpieces Graceland and The Rhythm of the Saints. Finally, Simon revisits the quiet railway stations, urban rhythms, and immigrant dreams of his greatest American Tunes."

btw, I totally tried to find a picture of Paul Simon on SNL when Lorne Michaels made him dress up in a chicken suit! That was fantastic! If anyone can find it for me, I'll love you forever!

Anyway, I saw Songs from the Capeman last night and I'm very disappointed and upset with BAM because Paul Simon only came out mid-way through the second half and played one song before retrieving again backstage. I think everyone, myself included, thought these shows would be Paul Simon concerts with other artists playing with him...instead they are other artists playing his music and he just shows up for one or two to show you what you're missing out on.

I hope you at least enjoyed the performance.

However, knowing that these are not Paul Simon shows I don't think I'll try buying tickets from scalpers for the African Skies shows next week or bother with the final week's shows, even if I'll recognize songs cuz I'd rather see Paul Simon doing his own songs like the last time I saw him tour.
